With the current prison crisis releasing criminals back into a society they have wronged does not seem to be a wise move. It is certainly not popular.
Perhaps an alternative might be to put the criminals into the army. Not to be taught killing and violence, but to impose upon them a discipline which will help to build character.
Instead of the usual martial skills, let them be trained in environmental protection, including wild fire control, water protection, canal and river cleaning and to address other of our social difficulties at this time.
The crisis of pollution is every bit as great as the prison crisis. Why not use one to solve the other.
