Israel is still confused as to what it is and where it belongs. It will be recalled that the violence it showed against its neighbours during the time of the Roman Empire caused that administration to disband the nation.
I think that Israel needs to take a good look at itself and stop struggling to be European. It is still taking part in the European Championships.
It is clear that the values held culturally are quite different from those espoused by the majority of European nations and, indeed, individuals.
I can appreciate that the original refugees who invaded Palestine looked to ‘the old country’ from which they came, but now it is a long time ago and far away in the history of this violent and troubled nation.
I do not suggest that the government truly reflects the feelings or values of the people, any more than the Russian regime represents the people of that nation. Nonetheless I believe it is time that Israel took a long look in the mirror at its actions and the values it wishes to espouse for its nation into the future.
Even the American ambassador to Israel has named the settlers attacking Palestinians in the West Bank ‘terrorists’. Quite a step for a diplomat, particularly an American one.
