I thought this morning that we would do better if the world was governed by the trees.
I was feeding the birds and looked at the clear blue sky with a few wisps of high cloud. I pitied the sheep in the field since today we expect the hottest day of the week – in excess of 30 degrees. I suggested the sheep take shelter under the trees and enjoy their bounty.
It led me to the thought that the trees have a great ethic. To bring increase to others without diminishing oneself.
They stand for many years, centuries if allowed to, and in that time extend their shelter to birds and animals, insects and humans alike. They take their example from the Sun – to shine on all without prejudice.
I wondered about the massacre the trees have faced over the last years, unlike anything else we have seen before. Wild fires ripping through forests right across the globe. That is besides the damage being done by industry and people’s vanity. Were the fires simply a response to human greed?
The voracious appetites of people are ripping society apart. Thieves abound in Britain, selling other people’s cars to buyers in distant lands. Breaking into homes and stealing anything they can easily pass on for a few pounds.
Murderers and rapists walking the streets – does publicity help in these matters?
But that is just the human side of the out of control desires which drive humanity and the mind-sphere of the Earth.
The trees stand and watch in relative dispassion recognising the laws of Karma will return the actions to those committing them. Unhappily the laws of Karma can act slowly so that individuals have to wait until other lifetimes to receive the cruelty they have imposed on others.
We simply don’t have the time. Perhaps with the speed-up that has occurred since 2012 Karma has become instant, but if so it also needs to become sharper or more severe.
Unlike the trees human have yet to learn to live by a simple ethic. Let us hope it comes swiftly upon us.
