HBO outbid the BBC on the gift of showing the Commonwealth Games to the British public as well as the world.
The result of which is a 45 minute extract shown on Channel 5 each night. One gets no sense of the competition. Just the results. Thanks HBO. You make our lives poorer while you make – or attempt to make – yourselves richer.
This celebration of the Commonwealth has been a great celebration to many in the UK over many years. Decades even, from 1930 onwards.
Second only to the Olympic Games.
Can we expect not to be able to watch the next Olympic Games as money takes over distribution of our sport?
We have already seen the corruption money brings in the World Cup. Does that mean that similar ‘fixes’ are to be expected/accepted in all world sport?
Can we trust dope testing under such circumstances, when all that is required from the money makers, is not excellence in endeavour, but profitability in gambling fortunes.
I am saddened by such poverty.
