Dream Angels

There is an advert on TV currently for series 1 to 6 of Supergirl.

In the advert she is shown holding up an aeroplane that is about to crash.

It made me realise that  this, along with the other series of superheroes, was again an approach from the inner kingdoms towards our benighted imaginations, awakening us to the wider scales of life that decorate our world. I refer to the realms of the elementals and that of the Devas, or Angels.

I suppose world is the wrong word and I should use planet, since world relates to the parameters we set on our interests. Like the rock world, or the world of modelling, or the Prime Ministers world, and so on.

Seeing humans performing incredible feats actually shows us intelligences acting in these ways. We generally only admit the human form as intelligent, hard though that is to believe at times. Modern society doesn’t even openly acknowledge the animals it lives with, or uses as food, as possessed of intelligence.

We cannot admit that those we eat are our equals. Along with this goes the idea that animals are without souls, since Descartes declared the same centuries ago. Actually he didn’t, he merely said that a dog crying out in pain was no indication of the presence of a soul. This was eagerly leapt upon by the ignorant to diminish other beings and widen the gulf between Humanity and Nature still further.

The Soul, it is generally accepted, is greater than the merely human. Few go further to accept that this extends the understanding of Soul from the simply human to the rest of the Animal Kingdom, and indeed the Kingdom of Life. This understanding is widely understood by first cultures that live closely with Nature, and was even alive in our own before cities and factories dulled humanity still more than the Biblical influence had already done. Fortunately this understanding is awakening again as people seek for oracles among the animals and trees in the form of Medicine cards. It is certainly carried among indigenous people who know the very mountains and rivers they live among as identities and intelligences in their own right.

Just as every hospital, organisation, hotel, city and government building has an angelic presence looking after it, even down to roundabouts and other hazardous locations, so too Airports have Divine presences, we might call angels, guarding and guiding them.

I sat in a plane at Heathrow on the way to Copenhagen. As we neared Copenhagen I was aware of a great being with swanlike wings extending from London to well over Denmark, releasing its responsibility to Copenhagen as we came in to land.

Now suddenly there I was watching it in a TV ad, as Supergirl saved the day.
