The 1960s were overlighted by the spirit of St Francis.
Songs sang of San Francisco and wearing flowers in our hair, heralding love and the flower power movement. The followers of St Francis are known by the name the Little Flowers of Saint Francis.
Francis is famous for his connection to nature and particularly the birds.
It was the Byrds recording of Dylan’s song Mr Tambourine Man that launched my awakening in that Decade. The opening notes were like a signal hooking my mind to the song. Helping me to stand straighter and feel the surge of something more than me pouring through my heart.
The Animals sang the House of the Rising Sun – speaking of resurrection and the Awakening of the Spirit.
The Beatles sang to us of love, love, love, love is all you need.
Nature was being celebrated from every aspect we were immersed in the holiness of Life itself. We were told ‘we had to get ourselves back to Garden’.
It was not until today, when I was nudged by no less a figure than the Prince of Darkness himself, that I made the connection with Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
I reflected on the movement from music to cinema.
The band was formed in 1980 and sang ‘The Power of Love’.
Following which intergalactic cultures were brought to the silver screen in films like ‘Close Encounters of the 3rd kind’, Galactic civilisation as seen from Earth, and ‘Star Wars’, acknowledging the widespread cultures and civilisations that fill the Galaxy we call home.
This was followed by the Lord of the Rings unfolding the inner kingdoms of Earth bringing Dwarves and Elves into everyone’s life. As well as the deformed figures persuaded into evil.
We are truly blessed by the Figure of St Francis who is, according to some at least, the Great Man, known as the Manu in Hindu theology.
