Reading ‘Lament From Epirus’ tracing the history of the discovery of the music from this region in Greece by the author, Christopher King. He mentions Bukka White, a Mississippi blues singer. So I began to look around for his recordings and came across Mississippi Fred McDowell another singer, recorded by Alan Lomax. I only knew Alan Lomax from his wonderful book of American folk songs. Fred McDowell is great. So I looked for more recordings by Lomax and came across a site dedicated to his work.
Great stuff.
Here is one recording Lomax made in New York, a song I have known for a long time but it seemed sort of relevant today.
